ROBERT ZWIRN RA, NCARB                                 

Robert Zwirn is one of the founding partners of MetroStudio. Robert’s 30+ years of experience include 3 years at the office of I.M. Pei and Partners (now Pei, Cobb, Freed and Partners), where he was part of the design team and construction administration teams for Raffles City/ Singapore, a $500 million retail, convention and hotel complex. He was able to work closely with Westin Hotels (then a part of UAL) during the planning and construction phases of the development. While residing in Singapore, Robert, as part of the I. M. Pei team, worked with Turner Construction Management on the gateway Towers Development, a $250 million twin tower office park located along the Singapore waterfront. Robert‘s other project experience includes the Bank of China tower in Hong Kong (contracting, structural design and feasibility) and the Oversea Chinese Bank Corporations’ plaza development in Singapore. The last project involved working with the planning authorities of Singapore, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Henry Moore studio in England, as well as the client-OCBC.

Robert Zwirn has served as Chair of the Department of Architecture at Miami University in Oxford, OH and the Director of the School of Architecture at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He is the author of numerous papers on architecture, architectural theory, planning and housing. He has lectured at Auburn University, R.I.S.D. Miami, Tulane University, Ball State, University of Tennessee, U.T. San Antonio, and the University of Miami. In addition to his academic involvement, Zwirn is the architect of over 50 residential, commercial and institutional projects in Alabama, Ohio, Louisiana and Montana. He is currently licensed in Louisiana and Ohio.

Robert’s educational background includes two undergraduate degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon and a Juris Doctor from the Jones Law School of Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. Prior to joining the office of I.M. Pei and Partners in 1981, Zwirn was a visiting Fellow at the School of Architecture at Princeton University. A New Yorker by birth, Robert has lived in Louisiana for the past 14 years.
